Thin red line

I don't own a SatNav, don't worry I'm not one of those wankers who sneers "d'uh just learn to read a map douchebag!" A gadget that's car related? It's bound to be *ahem* right up my street, instead I'm religiously opposed to them as a practicing skinflint.

Not being experienced in using the little blighters I'm not sure what their performance is like but I am taken by a product being developed by US company Making Virtual Solid called Virtual Cable. It displays a red route line on the driver’s windscreen just like a fighter pilot's HUD with no need to take your eyes off the road.


Users input their required destination through their existing satnav and Virtual Cable then uses the routeplan the gadget comes up with to display the red line, which is achieved using a combination of lasers and mirrors hidden behind the car’s dashboard.

That's right, it uses frikkin' laser beams, and there's nowt cooler than that.

Citroën - grow a pair

Both the Beeb and Reuters report that Citroën have apologised to China over a full-page advertisement placed in several Spanish newspapers showing the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong pulling a wry face at a sporty hatch-back.

The scowling Mao had infuriated Chinese Internet users who saw it as a slight, according to Chinese state newspaper the Global Times. "As a Chinese, I felt greatly insulted when seeing this ad," a posting on web portal Tianya said. "It is not only insulting Chairman Mao, but the whole Chinese nation."

"This is no small thing," said another chatroom visitor "It has an influence on the whole country. It damages the whole Chinese people."

Clearly this is a dark day, not just for advertising but the mental health of the entire globe.

The Beebs website reports the news of a new charge of causing death by careless driving. A sidebar lists some common driving distractions including Eating at the wheel or using items like teapots.

Presumably other things to watch out for whilst driving include snagging one's Bowler hat, football hooliganism or being a baddie in an action flick.
