Ride alone and you ride with Obama

Become a politician and the freebies start rolling in.

John McCain has taken delivery of one of Orange County Choppers finest (!?). Orange County Choppers is the firm immortalised on the Discovery Channel for the striking bikes the Teutul family put together from various components out of a catalogue build, that is in the few minutes during the working day that they aren't arguing noisily with each other. McCain's new ride is a tribute to PoWs, the barbed wire highlights are a particularly tasteful design motif.

When McCain was presented with the bike he said "Sarah and I are going to get on that chopper and ride it straight to Washington!".

Unfortunately McCain isn't licensed to ride a bike, it isn't road legal, it's a hardtail - meaning there's no rear suspension and the poor fella has an enlarged prostrate...

Oh and nice handlebar design for a bloke who world famously can't lift his arms above shoulder height due to injuries sustained as a prisoner in Vietnam

I'm starting to suspect that the Teutul family are secret Democrats.

it begins...

Just unpacked the brakes I won on ebay for my new BMX.

There can be a large variation between one persons description of something being in 'good condition' and the next, luckily these are freakin' mint. They've clearly only ever seen time on a showbike boasting nary a scratch. Good ebayer!

I just need to get some brake shoes for them, and what could be cooler than these? Need to find them in black to keep the colour scheme sweet.

An alternative is these pads made by British firm Gusset, they are of course Gusset Incontinence Pads.

New wheels

Back in 1985 a young driverchris lusted after a BMX, a Raleigh Burner would have been very heaven. When on Xmas morning I was invited to have a look in the garage you can imagine my excitement. I hope I hid my disappointment when a somewhat elderly 'racer' that I assume my dad had sourced from a mate was revealed. I hope I hid it because
  • Its good manners
  • It can't have been easy paying the bills
  • It was a much more sensible bike on reflection

Anyway, these days I can indulge my own damn retrospective fantasies aided by a bottle of red and that temptress ebay.

Ain't she pretty? What a guy!

R.I.P. Snowman

Jerry Reed Hubbard - March 20 1937 – September 1 2008

An incredibly accomplished songwriter and session guitarist, his first hit 'Guitar Man' was much admired by Elvis. But you probably know him as the Snowman, the Bandit's truckdriving friend.

Not only did he star in Smokey and the Bandit, he also wrote and performed the theme 'Eastbound and Down'

Keep the pedal to the metal fella, and look out for those county mounties...
